What is JQuery

Image
jQuery is an amazing JavaScript library that makes it easy to create wonderful web effects in just a few lines of code. As the website says:” “ jQuery is a JavaScript library that takes this motto to heart: Writing JavaScript code should be fun. jQuery achieves this goal by taking common, repetitive, tasks, stripping out all the unnecessary markup, and leaving them short, smart and understandable.” Maybe you are thinking… “Why I would need another JavaScript library”? Just give a try and you will see how simple and powerful it is even if you have already used Moo.fx, Scriptaculous, TW-SACK or Prototype. Why I should use jQuery? Simple. In just one glance at the source code of a page using jQuery you’ll see how easy it is to use, how much it accomplishes in so few lines of code, and how graceful it is. My mind was opened one day when I stumbled across some code written with jQuery. I was flipping through the RSS feeds and reading my daily dose of web design blogs when I came across an e...

What does a front-end web developer do?

Front-end web developers, the "artists" formerly known as web designers are the bunch of people in the company that make sure that the data coming from the backend gets displayed on the browser. They also make sure it looks as closely as possible as the design, that , CED came up with, and that the user can navigate through it, accessing the data. They also make sure it looks as closely as possible as the design, that , CED came up with, and that the user can navigate through it, accessing the data. Web developers don't have it as easy as it sounds though. Front End Developer ( who is ..)

Image
You have been working with (X)HTML and CSS for anywhere from 1-4 years. You prefer front end development because you're creative and visual and have a good eye for design . You write standards-compliant / semantic (X)HTML and CSS without Googling the syntax or using WYSIWYG editors. You understand the difference between standards mode and quirks mode . You know what the box model hack is and what versions of IE it works for. You may love Firebug because it saves your life or you are so good you don't need it. You can use Gimp, Fireworks or Photoshop to cut up images and are handy with designing an icon or two in a pinch. You are not uncomfortable working in the context of a complex Java web application even if you don't understand its intricacies. You won't get scared off by scripting markup like Velocity or JQuery showing up in the code here and there. You are a self starter who loves working with technology and you stay up late putting the finishing touches o...

Quirks Mode is a mode of operation of web browsers such as Internet Explorer (IE), Firefox, and Opera. Basically, Quirks Mode (also called Compatibility Mode) means that a relatively modern browser in ten tio nal ly simulates many bugs in older browsers, especially IE 4 and IE 5. Quirks Mode is triggered by doctype sniffing, also known as doctype switching. This means that the browser inspects the start of an HTML document to see whether it contains a doctype declaration as required by HTML specifications. The purpose of Quirks Mode is to make old pages to display as their author intended. Old pages may have been written to utilize known features of old browsers or at least to adapt to them.
